Kunstverein Leipzig
Raum der Gegenwart

The sign (based on an original) handmade with altered message hung on the glass door of the Kunstverein and was usually only discovered by many visitors afterwards or through enquiry or reference.

The reference to the exhibition title (Raum der Gegenwart/Space of the present) can be established along several lines:
- The actual absence from the location. (The artist is absent)
- The relationship to the present and its always unredeemed state.
- The artist’s hope of getting away from that which he is also unable to resolve with his art.
- The dream of turning away from the curse of self-legitimisation or staging and the compulsion to succeed.

If staying away as an artistic game is not being away, is the actual exit as an artistic performance still art?
