Field marking cut (moulding cutter) into the floor

for the Project "Die Einen, die Gleichen und die Anderen" curated by Stefan Kausch

At an old gym, most of the original field marking has disappeared under a new gray floor. In its stead, the artist has cut alternative markings into the new floor like scars into a body. As they do not mimic the exact position of the old markings, a third playing field now overlaps the old one. Yet it does not correspond to any known ball game. Without noticing it, the visitor steps onto the new field, which uses the gym’s code (field markings) but does not belong to it. The visitor does not recognize it as part of the "game of art" and instead turns to the field of art, thus becoming part of the artwork, the subject of which is exactly this hidden overlapping meaning of play and game as outlined by Pierre Bourdieu.
