The video shows, in a fixed shot, the door of the back entrance of a hotel in Beijing. Through this door pass the most courteous, polite, kind, sincere, genuine, truthful, heartfelt, dedicated and devoted employees in the world, at least according to a large sign above the door: Through this door pass the most courteous, helpful and sincere employees in the world. I picked up this consecration, this damnation, to which the employees are thus forced, on my own authority. This ambivalent distinction, this highest contractual obligation, is the sword of Damocles hanging over the appropriated subject. I have given myself this omen, which the non-employed artist might wish for himself and his work: Without having to go in there, and without being allowed in, I passed several times through this door, under this superlative, under the oracle.
