Fly of the pigeons

intervention/installation

Leipzig, 2004

Fly of the acroterion-figures
from the roof of the Leipziger
Opera House for 1 month .
Replika, different places

Not realized.

Four large, once golden doves adorn the four corners of the roof of the Leipzig Opera House. These animal sculptures remain there in a gesture that suggests that the birds are about to fly up and away. For a short time (in the course of their forthcoming restoration), the pigeons actually take to the skies and can suddenly be seen on various neighbouring buildings. The four originals will be removed from the opera house overnight and replaced with four identical copies, which will be mounted in clearly visible locations on certain buildings on Augustusplatz.
