Unlike in the USA, where only immaculate Star-Spangled Banners may be displayed, Israel has a very down-to-earth approach to its own flag. As the day of independence recedes into the past, the Degel Israel becomes increasingly tattered and faded, presenting quite a sad sight on balconies and roofs. This is especially remarkable considering the immense national pride of a small country surrounded by its enemies.
